State government criticised for not clearing the name of Silchar railway station as Bhashashaheed railway station.

Silchar, 1 September
Founding President of All Cachar-Karimganj-Hailakandi Students’ Association (ACKHSA), Pradeep Dutta Roy in a statement criticised the Assam government for not clearing change of the name of a Silchar railway station as Bhashashaheed station in memory of martyrs of language movement in Cachar. He claims that the central government has given clearance in favour of Bhashashaheed station in 2016. North Karimganj MLA Kamalakshya De Purakayastha has recently raised the issue in the ensuing Assam Legislative Assembly sesdion. In reply to his question State Transport Minister Chandra Mohan Patowari said that since two linguistic groups opposed the nomenclature the government has dropped the idea of naming the station in memory of the Barak language martyr. Pradip Dutta Roy who was expelled from BJP criticised BJP as anti. Bengali party. He also criticised Congress for not accepting the name Bhashashaheed for Silchar railway station.
