Guwahati, August 7, 2025: Shri Amrit Mohan Prasad, IPS, Director General of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), concluded a two-day visit to the Area of Responsibility (AoR) of Frontier Headquarters, Guwahati, on August 7, 2025, to assess operational preparedness and strengthen border management along the Indo-Bhutan border. The visit underscored the SSB’s commitment to securing India’s 699-km border with Bhutan while promoting welfare schemes and technological advancements for both personnel and border communities.On August 6, DG Prasad began his tour at the 31st Battalion, SSB, in Gossaigaon, where he was welcomed by Inspector General Shri Sudhir Verma. Paying tribute to fallen soldiers, he laid a wreath at the Martyr Memorial, honoring their sacrifices. During his visit, the Director General reviewed the security scenario and operational readiness of the force, engaging directly with soldiers to understand their challenges and issuing necessary directives to enhance border management. He also visited the 15th Battalion, SSB, in Kajalgaon and Sector Headquarters, Bongaigaon, where he interacted with officers and troops, emphasizing vigilance and efficiency in safeguarding the border.On August 7, DG Prasad arrived at Frontier Headquarters, Guwahati, where he was accorded a Guard of Honour. Addressing a Sainik Sammelan, he urged personnel to adopt a healthy lifestyle, prioritize physical fitness, and integrate modern technologies into border management. Highlighting the SSB’s role in fostering development in border areas, he stressed the importance of civic action programs to strengthen ties with local communities. During a review meeting with Inspector General Shri Sudhir Verma and other commanders, including Shri Neeraj Chand, Deputy Inspector General (Admn/Ops), Shri Arvind Verma, Commandant (Admn), and Shri Sunil Kaushik, Commandant, 1st Battalion, Sonapur, the DG outlined priorities for technological upgrades, infrastructure development, and rural upliftment along the border.The visit also featured a focus on welfare initiatives. Smt. Shikha Prasad, President of the SSB Wives Welfare Association (Sandiksha), held a meeting with Sandiksha families at Frontier Headquarters, Guwahati, and the 1st Battalion, Sonapur. Welcomed by Regional President Smt. Rani Anuradha with a traditional Khada and bouquet, Smt. Prasad reviewed ongoing welfare activities and highlighted schemes aimed at supporting SSB families. These efforts align with the SSB’s motto of “Service, Security, Brotherhood,” emphasizing holistic support for personnel and their families.Inspector General Shri Sudhir Verma expressed gratitude to DG Prasad for his guidance and leadership during the visit. The SSB, tasked with guarding India’s borders with Nepal (1,751 km) and Bhutan since 2001 and 2004 respectively, continues to play a critical role in national security. The force has also been recognized for its civic action programs, such as building schools and infrastructure under the Border Area Development Plan, fostering goodwill among border populations.The Director General’s visit reinforces the SSB’s commitment to enhancing operational efficiency, adopting cutting-edge technology, and promoting the welfare of its personnel and border communities, ensuring robust security along India’s eastern frontier.
