Guwahati, January 27, 2026: Shri Sudhir Verma, Inspector General of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), has been conferred the prestigious President’s Medal for Distinguished Service (PSM) on the occasion of India’s 77th Republic Day celebrations in 2026.According to an official press release from the SSB Frontier Headquarters in Guwahati (No. VIII/FG/PUB/Press-Release/2024/09, dated 01.01.2026), Shri Verma, a 1993-batch officer, has been recognized for his exemplary career and outstanding contributions. He played a key role in enhancing border management and security along the India-Nepal and India-Bhutan international borders.Shri Verma has also served with distinction for over 11 years in the elite Special Protection Group (SPG), responsible for the security of the Prime Minister of India. His earlier accolades include the Police Medal for Meritorious Service awarded in 2017.In his statement, Shri Verma expressed that the honour reflects the collective team spirit and dedication of SSB personnel towards the nation, extending gratitude to all his colleagues and supporters.This year, the SSB received two PSM awards, with the other going to Shri Ganesh Kumar, IPS, Inspector General. Overall, 13 SSB personnel were honoured with various President’s Medals on Republic Day 2026, highlighting the force’s vital contributions to border security and national protection.The President’s Medal for Distinguished Service is among the highest recognitions for personnel in police and paramilitary forces, celebrating exceptional service and commitment to duty.
