Tamuliduva, August 30, 2025 – In a proactive move to safeguard wildlife and reduce human-animal conflict, the Range Office of Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary has installed barricades at two strategic locations along the PWD road connecting Kamarpur and Rajmayong at Tamuliduva. The Ranger of the Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary Pranjal Baruah explained to firstne.in that the initiative aimed to control speeding traffic on this critical stretch, which serves as a vital crossing point for animals such as rhinos, buffaloes, and wild boars, particularly during and after the monsoon season when they move toward nearby paddy fields for forage. The decision to install barricades comes in response to the challenges faced by forest staff in managing high-speed heavy and light vehicles that pose a threat to both wildlife and human safety. The Tamuliduva section, a hotspot for wildlife movement, has seen increased risks of accidents and conflicts due to unchecked traffic. The newly placed barricades are expected to assist forest staff in effectively monitoring and regulating vehicle movement, ensuring safer passage for animals.Round-the-clock vigilance by the Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary’s forest staff has already proven effective in minimizing human-animal conflicts in the area. The addition of barricades is set to further strengthen these efforts, enhancing the safety of both the region’s iconic wildlife and local communities. This initiative underscores the commitment of the Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary authorities to balancing conservation with human activity, protecting the rich biodiversity of the region while promoting coexistence.
