Imphal Sept 16:
All Manipur Working Journalist Union (AMWJU) has celebrated 47th foundation day at Manipur Press Club. Remembering all the journalists who have lost their lives, the union has offers prayer as per the traditions of the state. The union has erected the Journalist Memorial Pillar’ which was inaugurated by Manipur Legislative Assembly’s Speaker, Y Khemchand and Education Minister, Th Radheshyam.
After offering prayers to the Journalist Memorial Pillar, Speaker, Y Khemchand has expressed that media play an important role in making a better society and the media should also share only the the genuine news, by doing so we can used it as a weapon for betterment of the society.
The guest of honour of the function , Th Radheshyam Education Minister has also Expressed that press is the fourth pillar of the democracy. The beauty of being in the media is their independent and being neutral while sharing the news to the general public. Press should never compromise their independence.
Further he said that the youth of developing state like us face difficulties in choosing the right path, hence media while reporting should also guide the youths.
Th Radheshyam further continue that the independent of the press is the key role in developing a society. In such a Compititive snd challenging hours the press should focus on facts and figure and further verify the genuineness and report to the general public. AMWJU president, Bijoy Kakchingtabam also shared that when the union was formed there were only 14/15 members but due to the hard work and dedication the union now engaged in many activities. This was possible only due to the founder members dedications.
With the inauguration of the journalist memorial pillar the family of the deceased can now offers their prayers every year. The pillar is basically led in rememberance of the all the journalists who loss their life while performing their duties, hence the union will be obliged if the family comes forward every year to offer prayer.
Meanwhile the state government has decided to increase the amount of pension Under the journalist pension scheme, from Rs 4000 per mont to 8000. The AMWJU welcomes the decision.
During the event the prizes where distributed to the winners of
Save Nambul Media Campaign competition.
Campaign best reporting (print) category went to Sangai express’s A Jiten . Imphal Times Sh Ajit was awarded as the second and Poknapham Oinam Mission the 3rd. In the best TV report and short film category ISTV Y Michalejit and Ch Aboi was adjudged as the winners.TOM TV Sh Onel and Naresh was awarded second and Impact TV Ksh Premchand and Ch Subhash the 3rd. In Photography category Sanaleibak W Robinson got the 1st and Imphal Free Press ki Lelen the 2nd and Poknapham RK Bullu got the 3rd prizes.
