Pobitora, Assam, June 5, 2025 – In a vibrant celebration of World Environment Day (WED), the forest staff of Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary (WLS), in collaboration with the Nagaon Social Forestry Division, distributed 450 seedlings of native species to local communities, schools, and organizations. The initiative aimed to promote environmental conservation and enhance green cover in the region.
As part of the day’s activities, 20 seedlings were planted within the premises of Pobitora Wildlife Range to beautify the campus. The effort was led by Range Officer Pranjal Baruah, AFS, who, along with his team, actively participated in the plantation drive.
In a parallel event, the forest staff joined a mass awareness campaign to “Beat Plastic Pollution” at Mayong Government Higher Secondary School. The program, organized by Pragjyotish Communication of Guwahati and Morigaon Jila Parishad, saw enthusiastic participation from students, educators, and local residents. The campaign emphasized the urgent need to reduce plastic usage and adopt sustainable practices.
Adding to the momentum, a roadside plantation drive was conducted near Tamuliduva along the PWD Road adjacent to Pobitora WLS. The event was graced by Sri Ananta Kumar Gogoi, CEO of Morigaon Jila Parishad, alongside Hati Bondhu Binud Dulu Bora, Chairman Dipanka Hazarika, and other distinguished guests. Together, they planted seedlings to raise awareness about environmental conservation and the importance of afforestation.
The dual initiatives of seedling distribution and the anti-plastic campaign underscored Pobitora WLS’s commitment to fostering a greener and cleaner environment. The events not only engaged the local community but also reinforced the sanctuary’s role as a steward of ecological preservation in Assam.
