GUWAHATI, November 25
Due to security reasons for the Assam Legislative Assembly’s winter session starting today, the government has ordered the closure of the Janata Bhawan playground – the only field available in Dispur for children to play cricket, football, and exercise, and for youths and senior citizens to take morning and evening walks. The closure order is effective from today until November 29, when the session ends. The decision has been protested by all who practice there, including children, youths, and the elderly. Previously, during assembly sessions, the field was kept open until 8 AM for practice. This is the first time the government’s decision to close the field from dawn till night has angered everyone. The residents of Dispur have urged the government to allow access to the Janata Bhawan field at least until 8 AM. It is worth noting that regular practice for cricket, football, volleyball, athletics, and various other sports takes place at this field. Additionally, elderly people also run or walk at this ground.
