The Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) Inter-Frontier Badminton Cluster Competition began today at the Laxmibai National Institute of Physical Education (LNIPE), Kamarkuchi, Guwahati. The four-day tournament, organised by SSB Frontier Guwahati, will continue till 28 November.

The event was formally inaugurated by Shri Sudhir Verma, Inspector General, SSB Frontier Guwahati, in the presence of Dr. Shankar Jyoti Basumatari, Dean, LNIPE. Senior officers from CAPFs, local administration, and SSB units attended the inaugural ceremony.

A total of eight teams—including the Force Headquarters (New Delhi), six frontiers (Ranikhet, Lucknow, Patna, Siliguri, Guwahati and Tezpur), and the SSB training centres—are participating in this year’s cluster meet. Altogether 149 players from different ranks will compete in singles, doubles (men, women and mixed) across six categories.

Speaking at the ceremony, IG Sudhir Verma welcomed the teams and said that the tournament is not only a platform to showcase sporting talent but also an important exercise in strengthening discipline, physical endurance and team spirit within the Force. He highlighted SSB’s achievements in the field of sports, noting that the Force won 164 medals in the National Games, 43 medals in international events, and 200 medals in Police Games in 2025.

The annual tournament is hosted at different locations across the country as per the directions of the SSB Force Headquarters. Players selected from this cluster meet will represent SSB in the upcoming All India Police Duty Meet (AIPDM).

The inaugural programme was also graced by Smt. Rani Anuradha, Regional President of Sandiksha, along with other Sandiksha members, who encouraged the participants and lauded SSB’s efforts to promote sports culture among its personnel.

Among those present were Shri H.B.K. Singh, Deputy Inspector General (Admn); Shri Neeraj Chand, DIG (Ops); Dr. Mamta Agrawal, DIG (Medical), along with senior officers and personnel of SSB.

The competition is expected to witness high-spirited matches over the next three days as teams vie for top honours and a chance to represent SSB at the national level.
